Enma’latl  "Take Home" 2019

Felt and porcupine quill bonnet.

Enma’latl  “Taking Home”: Resistance to white supremacy and the patriarchy: The Mi’kmaq Bonnet.

Enma’latl or Taking home in the English translation is a body of white bonnet embellished with naturally dyed porcupine quills. The work explores the traditional Mi'kmaq bonnet with experimental quillwork, healing through traditional craft and resistance to a colonial supperssion. Playing off the many different meanings and changes in the subversive bonnet attempt to take back the importance of this historical headdress importance.

Work shown At AuArts Via Contextual summer residency.
